Malheur County Curb Ramps

We are glad you stopped by to learn more about the upcoming curb ramp modifications in Malheur County. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is improving the existing curb ramps in Nyssa & Vale in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to ensure safe crossing for all pedestrians.

Stations

City of Vale

This project will add or update curb ramps along Washington and A Streets (US 20) and Glenn Street (US 26)to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations.

Project Overview:

The project will:

  • Update 196 curb ramps along Washington and A Streets (US 20) and Glenn Street (US 26) in the City of Vale in compliance with ADA regulations.

Key Challenges:

  • ODOT will close individual ramps for construction, requiring users to detour onto nearby temporary pedestrian access routes provided by the contractor. The temporary pedestrian access route will be ADA accessible.

Timeline:

Design is underway. Construction will begin during the fall of 2020 with projected completion by fall of 2021.

Funding:

This is a federally funded project at $6,084,520.00 for the cities of Vale & Nyssa.

Environmental:

We do not anticipate any significant environmental impacts from this project, however we will obtain all environmental clearances before work begins.

City of Nyssa

This project will add or update curb ramps along US20/26/OR 201 (Thunderegg Blvd & Main Street) to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations. Two rectangular rapid flashing beacons, which are high-intensity warning lights that notify drivers when a pedestrian is entering the crosswalk will be installed at the intersections US20/US26 at Bower Ave. and on OR 201 at King Blvd. to improve crossing safety near the Nyssa public schools.

Project Overview:

The project will:

  • Update 122 curb ramps along US20/26 (Thunderegg Boulevard, Main Street) and OR 201 (Adrian Boulevard) in the City of Nyssa in compliance with ADA regulations.
  • Install two rectangular rapid flashing beacons at the intersections US20/US26 at Bower Ave. and on OR 201 at King Blvd. to improve crossing safety near the Nyssa public schools.

Key Challenges:
